Write a useful note without telling everything
A short template to separate a situation, a feeling and a question to revisit later.
Choose what the note will be for
A note can help you recall an event, prepare a conversation or ask a question at an appointment. Choosing its purpose means you do not have to write everything down. Unmask’s journal and appointment preparation space organise what you want to keep; this guide also works on paper.
Start with one situation. You do not need an exhaustive account of your day. You can write a few words, leave a field blank or return to the note later.
A four-line template
- The situation: what happened, and when? Choose a concrete fact rather than an interpretation of someone else’s intentions.
- What I noticed: a feeling, a sensation or difficulty finding words. “I do not know” is a possible answer.
- What helped or was missing: written information, time, clarification, a break. Do not infer a general rule from a single event.
- What comes next: a question to ask or a small action to try. You can also decide that no action is needed.
Prepare what you want to share
A private note does not have to be shown in full. Before a discussion, choose one situation and the question that matters to you. You can remove names, intimate details and passages you want to keep to yourself.
For an appointment with a professional, a question such as “How can I explain this need in this situation?” opens a conversation without drawing conclusions from the journal. Notes are not a diagnosis and do not oblige the professional to confirm an interpretation.
Read back without grading yourself
When reading back, look for a useful detail: wording that helped, missing information or a topic to revisit. A difficult day does not sum up how you function. If several entries seem similar, keep the context of each before concluding there is a pattern.
You can also record an everyday success: asking for clarification or finding an easier way to do a task. The journal can hold pleasant experiences as well as difficult ones.
To try a shorter version, use the worksheet without an account. Its draft stays on the page; it does not sync with your Unmask journal. Closing or reloading the page clears the worksheet’s input.
